Heist/Confidence Films

In many mystery and detective films, there is a hero that will do whatever he or she needs to find the culprit. In these types of films, the audience identifies with the detective who is taking down the criminal. In heist films, the idea is turned around. Instead, the audience identifies with the criminal. Just like mystery and detective films, heist films are an intelectual exercise. In both types of film we watch the master of his trade do what he or she does best.

Several Popular movies of today such as Heist, Oceans 11, and The Italian Job depict the planning and execution of a big job. The big question is why are these types of movies appealing. The answer is very simple, you may not know it, but you have always dreamed of being a part of a heist yourself. Heist films appeal to the audience so well because it is enjoyable to watch split second executions of a coordnated plan flow perfectly. It has been compared that a good heist film is like watching Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in their prime.

So have described heist films to ballets. From the beginning to the end of the film, every aspect of the heist is choreographed perfectly. There is nothing more appealing than watching a team of speacialist executing the job with precision and skill as a neurosurgeon. Watching the perfect heist film is like watching a pieces of a puzzle come together. People enjoy these films, because for once they get to run with the bad guys. As an audience member, heist films almost pull you in as part of the crew. These films are important because they offer a reflection on the importance of justice and loyalty.
